Hello everyone!! I have began this blog to post my ideas and findings as a teacher. I think this profession is very interesting and has a lot to offer and new things to discover every day! I have recently completed my student teaching and graduated with a BA in Elementary Education as you can see on my profile info. I am currently looking for that wonderful position to put all of my findings and ideas to work! I have decided to post some things today that I have found to be very exciting AND extremely effective. Teaching is a great career in my opinion but is a no go when classroom management is absent. I will have to say that I have pretty good classroom management skills and I believe it is thanks to my four years experience as a Teacher's Assitant at the daycare center on the campus where I attended college. You can get NOTHING done with preschoolers if there is no classroom management. But during my student teaching, I found that getting the students' attention was taking to long. I wanted their undivided attention within a second of saying one word. Then, I remembered the research paper and presentation I did in college for a reading class and discovered my new classroom management technique. It is called Power Teaching and it was created by Chris Biffle, a college professor in California. I did more research, put my plan together on how I was going to use it in my class and when that Monday morning came, I went to work. I introduced the idea to my students as if I had just thought of this cool game on the spot. The students loved it. After that, if I wanted the attention of all my students no matter what was going on, all I had to do was say "Class!" and intantly I got class response of "Yes!" and the eyes and ears of all students on me!! It was so effective and I also implemented to reteaching parts into my lessons also, where students would repeat what I have just taught to their neighbor. I would walk around to listen and see assess what all they gathered so far. When I have my own classroom, I plan to use the whole Power Teaching technique. Well, I have a few videos posted so you can get a full idea of what exaclty I'm talking about and so I can stop ranting because I am known for writing a book on just the simplist idea!
Thanks and enjoy the vids!!!!!
